Research Interests

Optical Wireless Communications; Visible Light Communications; Infrared Channel Modelling; Atmospheric and Underwater Optical Communications; Nano and Molecular Communications; Vehicular Communications.

Biography

Matthew Higgins received his MEng in Electronic and Communications Engineering and his PhD in Engineering from the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick in 2005 and 2009 respectively. Remaining at the University of Warwick, he then progressed through several Research Fellow positions, in association with some of the UKs leading defence and telecommunications companies before undertaking two years as a Senior Teaching Fellow in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science subjects. In July 2012, Dr Higgins was promoted to the position of Assistant Professor where his research focused on Optical, Nano, and Molecular Communications. Whilst is this position, Dr Higgins set up the Vehicular Communications Research Laboratory which aimed to enhance the use of communications systems within the vehicular Space. In March 2016, Dr Higgins was promoted, and appointed as an Associate Professor at WMG working in the area of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles where he leads the ICT component of the group. 

Dr Higgins is a Senior Member of the IEEE, SMIEE, a member of the IEEE Communications Society, COMSOC, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, FHEA. He is also a member of the Commnet2 community.

Dr Higgins is a regular reviewer of leading international journals and frequently serves as a TPC member for key COMSOC conferences. Dr Higgis is also an Associtate Member of the EPSRC Peer Review Collage.
