Biography

Dr Mallinson, a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, joined WMG in 2005 as Research Manager for the Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (WIMRC), having previously been Vice-President for Sales & Marketing at Dynex Semiconductor Limited. In January 2012 he was appointed Programme Manager for the newly established WMG centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult. This centre is focussed on collaborative research with industrial partners in the area of low carbon mobility, in particular the light-weighting of vehicles and improved energy storage and management solutions for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Following PhD research in novel electric motors and power electronics at Imperial College, Dr Mallinson worked for Cambridge Consultants before spending 20 years in various GEC Marconi companies working in electronic systems and semiconductors. He held a variety of roles in product development, product line management, marketing and business development. In 2005 he gained an MBA from the Open University which provided a theoretical context to his years of industrial managerial experience. Throughout his industrial career Dr Mallinson built links with a number of universities, using their expertise to help develop new products and implement speculative ideas that were outside the comfort zone of his in-house resources. He believes his previous industrial experience coupled with successful working relationships with Universities provides him with useful insight when developing mutually beneficial research partnerships with industrial companies.
