Browse to the forum whose description you want to edit.

Select the Properties button:

You see the Editing an existing forum screen:
Edit forum description
Briefly describe your forum and its purpose in the Forum description box. You can enter and format text and include images that have been uplodaded to the page:
On the published page, the description appears above the discussion threads:
Set how long posts remain editable
Under the Editing section, use the slider to specify how long users have to edit their posts after posting:
Note: Regardless of this setting, users assigned permissions as forum moderators and above can always edit posts.
Show or hide avatars
Avatars act as consistent images for your online persona across different sites.
You can choose whether or not to show avatars in your forum and provide the address of an avatar service, such as gravatar.com. Enabling this feature on your forum enables people who have signed up to Gravatar, or another service, to show their pictures alongside their posts:
Note: Users must separately associate their avatar service profile with their University of Warwick account if they want to display an avatar.
