Awards categories

There are ten award categories, and the scheme is open to all staff and students to nominate any colleague or team from any area of the University.

You can nominate anyone in any award category - apart from research excellence (academic nominees only).

Outstanding Contribution

This celebrates individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to Warwick’s overall performance and reputation. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • Someone who’s always supportive, flexible and proactive
  • A long-serving colleague who’s always had a positive impact
  • Someone who's been responsible for the successful delivery of a significant project, initiative or innovation.

Student Experience

We’re proud that Warwick is a supportive, demanding and enjoyable place for our students to succeed within. This award acclaims the exceptional people who make that happen. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • a contributor to making Warwick an accessible and welcoming place for students whatever their background
  • someone who helps create the highest quality educational environment
  • someone who develops students as leaders and partners in the University and society
  • a provider of outstanding extracurricular or international activities
  • someone that’s made a real difference to students’ employability

Research Excellence (academic nominees only)

This hails the individuals whose work has enhanced Warwick’s research reputation and competitive performance. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • a creator of new knowledge that has been disseminated and applied
  • someone whose research has had distinctive economic, social, cultural, global or environmental influence
  • the recipient of significant national or international merit, or funding awards
  • the provider of exceptional support, within or across academic teams or departments, in order to facilitate excellent research

Simplify, Collaborate Deliver (formerly Service Excellence)

The efforts and energies of Warwick’s staff should never be underestimated. This award commends the individuals committed to providing excellent professional service at all times, who work proactively to identify and implement service improvements and solutions.Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • the kind of person that always puts student, academic and customer needs first
  • the sort of person who actively seeks to resolve obstacles at work
  • someone who goes out of their way to engage positively with University colleagues to enhance service levels through improvements and innovations
  • someone who actively represents Simplify, Collaborate, Deliver values through their behaviour and work

Community Contribution

This honours the tireless individuals building valuable relationships between Warwick and its local and regional communities. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • someone who works to improve our links with regional industry
  • someones who works towards increasing positive national attention or knowledge, productivity and economic benefits for the region
  • the kind of person who develops or enhances culture, skills development and education outreach through volunteering
  • someone who develops or improves Warwick’s relationship with a regional community or initiative

Global Contribution

Warwick’s international reach and reputation has risen dramatically in recent times. This award recognises the individuals who’ve helped drive that success. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • someone who's created or improved successful collaborative research partnerships with overseas institutions
  • someone who makes and delivers opportunities for staff and student engagement overseas
  • someone who improves Warwick’s global reputation by undertaking activities and initiatives overseas or in collaboration with overseas institutions

Outstanding Team

This award acknowledges the performance of teams whose brilliant work together fuels University’s strategic direction and success.

Your nominated teams can be academic, professional or a mixture of the two. They can come from the same department, or may have been brought together to complete a particular activity or project.

The team’s members should also consistently strive for excellence both collectively and individually, and support one another to successfully reach their aims or deliver a project.

Inspirational Leadership

Warwick is blessed with a number of inspirational individuals making a considerable impact with their staff. This award recognises and celebrates the input and impact of members of staff in leadership roles at Warwick.

Your nominee should have a leadership responsibility at any level, and be at least one of the following:

  • recognised for co-ordinating, developing and leading teams/departments through successful initiatives or change programmes
  • an inspirational worker and innovator with high professional standards;
  • responsible for inspiring positivity in their staff, with the principles of equality, diversity and dignity in mind

Unsung Hero

This award recognises and celebrates members of staff who have had a positive impact on day-to-day life at Warwick by working diligently behind the scenes. Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

  • always alert to the needs of colleagues, students and visitors
  • always helpful and willing to take on any job
  • the colleague to whom people will turn to first for support and solutions
  • ever-willing to put Warwick’s interests first
  • using and sharing all their knowledge and experience for Warwick’s benefit

    Public Engagement

    With increasing emphasis on the impact and relevance of universities in a changing world, it has never been more important to communicate the aspirations, and achievements of higher education to interested public parties outside the usual confines of academia. This award recognises the contribution that individuals make to this public engagement activity.

    Your nominee should be at least one of the following:

    • delivering, developing or enhancing any aspect of our public engagement activity
    • someone who can demonstrate how their contribution has strengthened and enriched the university’s public impact and identity
    • working with external partners (other than universities) to develop sustainable and productive relationships
    • supporting the training and development of staff to be more effective in public engagement
