Red Central relates to a series of works Cohen made from 1962 in which he explored symmetry and asymmetry, variation and repetition and the spatial effects of diagonals. The use of the diagonal canvas was not uncommon at this date. Another work in the Collection, Cape Red by Jeremy Moon, is also a diagonal structure but is very different in composition from Red Central.
