4th Annual Galician Encontro

In May 2013 Warwick Hispanic Studies hosted the 4th Annual Galician Encontro, a one day meeting that brings together Postgraduate and early career researchers and lecturers in Galician Studies.

This year's meeting was the biggest yet with 12 attendees from Warwick, Bangor, Liverpool, Oxford, Aston, Birmingham and St Andrews. We discussed research in literature, translation studies, film, cultural studies, history and exciting initiatives in Galician teaching and cultural events.

Research seminar series 2012-2013

During the 2012-2013 academic year we welcomed six speakers to our new departmental research seminar:

  • November 2012: Professor Thomas Glave of SUNY Binghampton, spoke on 'Scenes from a Jamaican Childhood' (cosponsored with Centre for Caribbean Studies).
  • February 2013: Dr Stuart Davs of Girton College, Cambridge spoke on 'Past Glories Present: Locating Museum Practices in Hispanic Literary History'.
  • March 2013: Professor Catherine Boyle, King's College, London presented her research on 'Translating Jose Triana: Getting there in one piece'.
  • May 2013: Three speakers. Professor Angel Quintero Rivera of the Uni de Puerto Rico on 'Afro Latin American Cultural Studies and Music'; Dr Claire Taylor, University of Liverpool on 'Locating Latin America Online: How Latin Americans Create Place on the Internet; and Professor Jose Colmeiro of the University of Auckland on his research project 'Made in Galicia; Cinema and Political Devolution'.
