Abstract: Although there has been a shift in spacecraft studies of the Sun towards the extreme-ultraviolet emission over the past 14 years or so, studies of solar X-ray emission are as important as ever. It is, for example, through hard X-ray emission we see clear evidence of electron acceleration marking the impulsive stage of solar flares. In this talk, I shall describe new results on solar X-ray emission from flares, including element abundances and the reality of the FIP effect (dependence of abundances in the corona on the first ionization potential of an element), and the true depth of the present solar minimum as determined from instruments aboard the Russian Coronas-Photon spacecraft.

UKRI Deadlines
Due to the implementation of a new UKRI funding system (TFS) there will be a fixed quarterly deadlines for some grants which would previously have been on open calls, this is to allow necessary system amendments and updates.
The first deadline after implementation will be 28th September 2023 and applies to those calls listed below:
EPSRC Post Doctoral Fellowship
EPSRC Working with overseas scientists
