How do I create a tags filter page?

Use the tags filter page template to provide a means for visitors to browse for information by ‘tags’, which are derived from pages' and files' keywords property. Examples:

Create a tags filter page

  1. Go to the parent page under which you want to create the tags filter page.
  2. Go to Edit > Create a new page.
  3. Select Change page template to expand the options, and choose Tags filter.
  4. Choose your preferred options to control how your tags filter page is displayed (each property is described below).
  5. Enter the URL, page heading, title bar caption and link caption. (For a description of these properties, see: How do I create a new blank page?)
  6. Specify the keywords and page contact.
  7. When you've finished editing the page properties, select the Create new page button. You'll see a confirmation message with a link to view the new page.

Change an existing page to a tags filter page

  1. Go to the page that you want to change to a tags filter.
  2. Go to Edit > Edit page properties.
  3. In Change page template and options, select the Tags filter template.
  4. When you've finished editing the page properties, select the Save button.

Tags filter options

Pages to include Specify whether pages, files or both are included in filtered results.
Allow users to download files in results as a zip This option is only available when you choose files in the Pages to include option. When selected, the tags filter page includes a link for visitors to download all files found in the filtered results as a zip file.
Topmost page

Specify the URL of the topmost page beneath which pages and files are included in filtered results. This option defaults to the current site's home page. However, you can scope the tags filter by a particular section – for example, all staff profiles under /fac/arts/department/staff/

Do not include http://www2.warwick.ac.uk in the URL.

Include subsites Choose whether to include subsites beneath the topmost page in the search scope. For very large sites, you may want to unselect this option.
Field to show on results Choose which property is displayed as the label for each page or file returned in filtered results: page heading or link caption. For files, page heading corresponds to the file name and link caption corresponds to the file's short title.
View Specify how the list of tags and filtered search results are displayed on the page. Standard displays tags in a grid at the top of the page with filtered results beneath. Two column displays tags in one column and filtered search results in the second column.
Show all possible tags Display all keywords found under the topmost page as tags.

Select which tags to show

Specify which keywords to show as tags. If you know the tags you can type them, comma-separated, in the text box. Otherwise, click the Select keywords button at the right of the box and select from a list.

Show the description underneath page results

Choose whether to show pages' description property in the filtered results. This has no effect when only uploaded files are included. This option is not available when Show the content of each result is selected.

Show the tags underneath page results

Choose whether to show the tags (i.e. keywords) property of any pages returned in filtered results. This has no effect when only uploaded files are included. This option is not available when Show the content of each result is selected.

Show a link to the parent page on tagged images

For any images returned in filtered results, show a link to the page containing the image. This option is not available when Show the content of each result is selected.

Show icons next to results

Show the appropriate file icon alongside any uploaded files returned in filtered results, and the page thumbnail of any pages. This option is not available when Show the content of each result is selected.

Show edit icons next to results

Show a button to edit the properties of any files returned in filtered results, providing the user has permission to edit the file. This provides a useful shortcut to edit a file's properties (e.g. change the link caption) without first locating the file in your site structure. This option is not available when Show the content of each result is selected – and is only available when uploaded files are specified in Pages to include.
Show the content of each result For each page returned in filtered results, instead of a simple list, display the page's content. This option has no effect on uploaded files.
