WMG experts line-up for Emerging Technology Conference
Our team of experts will be out in force at the New Statesmen Emerging Technology Conference on 20th November at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London.
The Conference programme is split into two streams, one tackling intelligence, software and machine learning, and the other infrastructure, advanced materials and robotics. The event brings together engineers, data analysts, IT and technology specialists, and senior management professionals, from across a variety of sectors, to discuss and debate technologies of the future.
£2.2m award by the Department of Transport for ZAPINAMO and WMG to trial new technology for charging electric commercial vehicles
Transport Minister John Hayes has announced that ZAPINAMO has been awarded £2.2m by the Department of Transport, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and Innovate UK under the Low Emissions Freight Trial to work with WMG and others to trial technology for ultra high speed rapid and movable charging technology for commercial vehicles.
ZAPINAMO's technology uses on/off grid and renewable sources for EV charging and is capable of delivering over 400kW to charge a vehicle in minutes. This represents a step change in how we charge EVs as it is the first charging technology which can meet the demands of electric commercial vehicles with long and demanding duty cycles.
New Professor of Power Electronics Joins WMG
WMG is proud to announce the arrival of Professor Richard McMahon who joins from Cambridge University.
As WMG’s first Professor of Power Electronics, Professor McMahon will set up and lead a power electronics research group widening WMG’s Energy and Electrical Systems research. He will bring with him his team from Cambridge, and a wealth of knowledge in power electronics, especially using wide band-gap devices, and their application in the automotive sector, energy use and storage, power distribution and renewable generation from both wind and wave power.
Professor McMahon comments: “Power electronics is a relatively new area of research for WMG, and I’m looking forward to using my expertise to help to grow and expand the existing Energy and Electrical Systems research.”
